Weather

Weather shows current conditions, a 5-day forecast and detailed wind for a show's venue or any place you type in. In the left menu, under Operations, choose Weather (in CoralOps it is called Sea state). It opens on your next upcoming show that has a venue.

It is in every product and every seat can read it. Owners and Company Admins can connect an on-site weather station; nothing else on the page is edited. If you do not see it, a GigOps Admin may have switched weather off for your company.

How do I see the forecast for a show?

  1. Open Weather.
  2. Pick the show from the show list at the top (only upcoming shows are listed).

GigOps uses the show's venue address, or its venue name and city, to find the forecast. If the show has no venue address yet, you are told so; add the venue details on the show first.

How do I check the weather somewhere else?

Type a ZIP or city in the ZIP or city box at the top of Weather and choose Go (or press Enter). The show list clears while you look at a typed location.

How do I connect an on-site weather station?

Owners and Company Admins can connect an Ambient Weather station, one for each venue or event.

  1. In your Ambient Weather account (ambientweather.net), open Account and create an API key.
  2. Open Weather, pick the show, and choose Connect on the On-site station panel.
  3. Paste the key in Ambient Weather API key and choose Find stations.
  4. Pick the Station, give it a Name, and choose the Event and, if it is only for one date, the Show.
  5. Set any alert lines you want (see below) and choose Connect station.

The key is stored encrypted and is never shown again. To change a station, choose Settings on the panel; leave the key blank to keep the saved one. Disconnect removes the station and its key.

What does the On-site station panel show?

The station tied to the show you picked (or to its event; with several stations, pick one from the list on the panel). It shows Wind and its direction, Gusts, Temp with feels like, Rain rate with today's total, and Lightning (strikes today, and how far and how long ago the last one was) when the station has a lightning sensor. Readings refresh every couple of minutes. A reading more than half an hour old shows its age, so you know the station has stopped reporting. If the station account refuses the saved key, the panel says so; a Company Admin enters it again in Settings.

How do weather alerts from a station work?

In Settings, each alert line is optional: Gusts (mph), Sustained wind (mph), Rain rate (in/hr), Lightning within (mi) (a strike in the last 30 minutes) and Temperature at or over (°F). When a reading reaches a line, everyone who runs the day (owners, Company Admins, managers, ops and coordinators) gets a notification, once. The panel shows the lines it is over. When the readings drop back under a line, the alert clears, and the next crossing notifies again. A course's Hold above wind (km/h) line on the same event alerts too, so a gust over a course hold line reaches the team straight away. Old readings never raise an alert.

Why does Weather say it is unavailable?

The forecast comes from an outside weather service. If it cannot be reached, you see "Weather is unavailable right now" with a Retry button. Try again in a moment. If a typed place cannot be found, check the spelling or try a ZIP code.
