Judging

Judging is the results desk's run board: the judge panel for each comp, every run as it opens and is scored, and the corrections. Judges score from their phones in GigOps Crew, and the desk watches the scores land here in large type. In the left menu, under Competition, choose Judging. It is part of ActionOps only.

How do I pick which comp to judge?

  1. In the left menu, under Competition, choose Judging.
  2. Pick the comp from the list at the top. Each entry shows its name, day, time and status.

Judging opens on the comp that is running, or the next one not complete. If it says "No comps to judge yet", put comps on the Comp schedule with a start list first. You need an event selected.

How do I assign a judge panel to a comp?

  1. In Judging, pick the comp and choose Judge panel.
  2. On the Judges tab, tick the judges sitting on this panel. Seats run J1, J2 and so on in the order listed.
  3. Choose head next to the head judge.
  4. Choose Save panel.

Judges are crew members whose department is set to Judge. If the list is empty, add them under Crew with the department Judge first. The head judge can correct a score after a run is scored.

Can the head judge run the panel without scoring?

Yes. On the Judges tab, choose head next to the head judge and tick The head judge runs the panel without scoring, then Save panel. The head judge does not need a ticked seat of their own.

A head judge who does not score has no seat in the run score or the tie-break, and a run closes without waiting for them. In GigOps Crew they see each seat's mark as it lands and the run score so far, and they can pick a seat under Mark for to send a mark for a judge whose phone is down. The desk cannot enter a score under the head judge's name.

How do I set league rules (whole-number marks, drop from five, cut results)?

Open the comp's details (Edit details) and use the Scoring rule rows:

A comp you do not change keeps scoring exactly as before.

How do judges score from GigOps Crew?

A crew member whose department is Judge gets a Judging tab in GigOps Crew. It lists Your panels and shows the run that is open right now. The judge types the score (and each criterion, if the comp has criteria) and taps Send score. While the run is open they can Replace score.

With no signal, the score is saved on the phone and sends itself when the phone is back online. The desk sees each seat's score appear on the run board as it lands.

How do I open the next run?

In Judging, choose Open next run. The button names the athlete and run number next in start order. The open run then shows at the top in a blue box marked Now dropping, with each judge's seat and the run score.

To open a specific run out of order, choose Open in that athlete's run column in the table.

How do I enter or correct a score from the desk?

  1. In Judging, choose Enter score on the open run, or … on a scored run in the table and then Enter score.
  2. Pick the Seat you are entering for.
  3. If the comp has criteria, fill each one in: the score is filled in as their average, and you can type over it.
  4. Type the Score and choose Save score (or Correct score for a run already scored).

With no judge panel assigned, the score you enter is the run score.

How do I enter times or points for a timed or points comp?

For a Timed comp, choose Enter time on the run and fill in Time (seconds) and Penalty (seconds). For a Points comp, choose Enter points. Then choose Save. A timed comp ranks on best time, lower wins.

To have times arrive by themselves, choose Timing feed on the run board and hand the key to your timing vendor. Times land on the board as they arrive. Rotate or disable the key if it leaks.

How do I mark a fall, DNS, DNF or void run?

On the open run in Judging, or from … on a run in the table, choose Fall, DNS, DNF or Void. DNS, DNF and Void ask you to confirm. To undo it, choose Reopen run, which opens the run for scoring again.

How do I see the score history for a run?

In Judging, choose History on the open run, or … on a run in the table and then History. It lists every score sent for the run with the time, the seat and who entered it. Struck-through scores were replaced by a later one. Nothing is ever deleted.

How do I run a head to head comp?

For a Head to head comp, the run board shows the bracket. Choose Open next matchup (or Open matchup on a matchup in the bracket) to open a run for each side, then Mark won (or Won in the bracket) for the winner. The loser's run settles with it and the winner moves up a round. Pick single or double elimination under Bracket (head to head) in the comp's details.

How do I check athletes in at the start gate?

In Judging, scan the athlete's Pass into Start gate: scan the athlete's Pass (a hardware scanner types the code and presses Enter), or type it and choose Check in. You can also choose check in under an athlete's name. Checked-in athletes show at the gate, and the board counts how many are at the gate. Choose at the gate to clear a check-in.

What does "Suggested hold" mean on the run board?

When a course has a wind or visibility hold line set (Hold above wind (km/h) or Hold below visibility (m) on the course) and the day's forecast crosses it, Judging shows a Suggested hold banner. It is your call, not the app's: choose Put on hold to hold the comp, and every athlete on the start list is told. When the forecast is inside the lines, a short forecast line shows instead.

How do I add a video clip to a run?

  1. In Judging, choose … on the run in the table.
  2. Paste the link under Clip of this run (link) and choose Save.

The panel sees it for review, and the athlete sees it on their Results tab in GigOps Athlete. A run with a clip shows a small play mark on the board.

How do I complete a comp, reopen it, or advance athletes?

How do I keep a chaperone log for doping control?

  1. Open the comp (from the Comp schedule, or Judge panel in Judging) and choose the Chaperone log tab.
  2. Pick the Athlete selected for testing from the start list, type the Chaperone's name, check the Notified time and choose Add.
  3. As it happens, choose Arrived now when the athlete reaches the testing station and Tested now when the test is done.

Remove takes an entry out of the log. The athlete sees their own entry (the chaperone and the three times) under Doping control on the Results tab in GigOps Athlete, read only. The log follows the same access as the comp itself.

Who can use Judging?

Company Admins and Company Users with the Manager, Ops or Coordinator role can run the board, open runs and enter scores. Reopening a completed comp is for Company Admins only. Judges score from GigOps Crew, not from this screen. Finance, Legal and View only seats do not see Judging by default.
