Basics
Inbox
Inbox holds your direct messages with other Company Users at your company, laid out like email with a subject and a reply. In the left menu, near the top, choose Inbox. Every Company User has an inbox. View only users can read and delete their messages but cannot send. Messages go between Company Users only; to reach crew, use the crew tools in Comms or Crew.
How do I send a message?
- In Inbox, choose Compose.
- Under To, pick the teammate.
- Type a Subject (optional) and your Message.
- Choose Send.
The message lands in their Inbox straight away, and they get a notification. If nobody else is on your company yet, the form says Invite a teammate to send a message and offers Go to Users & access.
How do I read a message?
Click the message in the list. It opens with From, To, when it was Sent, and the full text. Opening a message marks it as read. Unread messages have a dot and are counted on the Inbox item in the left menu and next to the Inbox title.
How do I reply to a message?
Open the message and choose Reply. A new message opens addressed to the sender, with "Re:" and the original subject filled in. Type your reply and choose Send. Replies are separate messages; they are not grouped into a thread in Inbox.
How do I see messages I sent?
Use the pills above the list: Inbox shows messages sent to you, Sent shows the ones you sent (marked with a Sent chip), and All shows both, newest first.
How do I mark everything as read?
Choose Mark all read at the top of Inbox. Every unread message sent to you is marked as read and the unread count clears.
How do I delete a message?
Open the message and choose Delete. Deleting removes the message for both you and the other person, so it disappears from their Inbox (or Sent) too. There is no undo.
How will I know when a message arrives?
When someone sends you a message:
- The bell in the top bar shows New message from the sender, with the subject or the start of the message. Clicking it opens the message in Inbox.
- The unread count on Inbox in the left menu goes up, without reloading the page.
- If you turned on browser notifications (avatar menu > Enable push notifications), or you use the GigOps Company app on iPhone, you also get a push notification.
Messages are not sent by email.
What is the difference between Inbox and Comms?
Inbox is your direct messages laid out like email, with subjects, Reply and Mark all read. Comms has the team channel (# general) and a Direct messages list that shows the same one-to-one messages as a chat. A direct message sent from either place shows in both.
Why can't I send a message?
- View only seats can read and delete their messages but cannot send. Ask a Company Admin to change your access level in Users & access if you need to write.
- The To list only shows other Company Users at your company. If the person is missing, they may not have accepted their invite yet; a Company Admin can check the Pending tab in Users & access.
- A message needs some text in Message and a recipient.
Can I message someone at another company?
No. Inbox is per company: you can only message people at the company you are working in. If you work for several companies, switch company to see and send that company's messages.
